A Lucky Little Painting: Shamrocks Under Glass
There’s something charming about a small bouquet of shamrocks tied with a golden bow and tucked safely under a glass cake dome. For this watercolor painting, the goal is to capture that feeling of a tiny treasure—simple, fresh, and a little bit magical for St. Patrick’s Day.
Start by lightly tracing the shape of the cake dome and wooden base. Then paint the shamrocks with soft layers of green watercolor, letting some leaves be lighter and others deeper for contrast. A loose, natural look works beautifully here—shamrocks are perfect for playful watercolor washes.
Next, add the golden bow that gathers the stems together. A warm yellow watercolor with a few darker touches can suggest the shimmer of gold. If you like, you can splatter a little gold paint around the bouquet to create that festive St. Patrick’s sparkle.
Finally, paint the glass dome using very light gray or blue tones, leaving plenty of white highlights so the glass feels transparent and delicate.
This painting is a lovely reminder that simple things—like a small bundle of lucky shamrocks—can feel like a treasure when we take the time to notice them.
